Ashburnham is a classic New England town with many historic colonial buildings, located in North Central Massachusetts. The Ashburnham Community Church steeple is the tallest structure in town. The public schools are part of the Ashburnham Westminster Regional School District, also known as Oakmont; through 5th grade the elementary schools are local to the towns, but beginning in 6th grade students from both Ashburnham and Westminster attend Middle School and High School together. Ashburnham is also home to a beautiful college preparatory school, Cushing Academy, which is within walking distance of the church. Cushing draws students from around the world as well as locally.
Ashburnham is a heavily wooded rural area that has long been a popular recreation area for people throughout Massachusetts and New England. It is particulary known for the large number of lakes in the area, as well as its proximity to Mt.Wachusett and Mt. Monadnock. Mt. Wachusett, located in Princeton and Westminster (many of our members live in Westminster, Ashburnham's sister town), is a great hiking area in the summer, and the site of the largest ski area in Massachusetts in the winter. Mt. Monadnock is a famous hiking area, and some of the trails are challenging, particularly above the tree line. Leominster State Forest is also close by, which contains some locally famous climbing cliffs.
